I think I’m just a lucky person. Or unlucky… but I bounce back?

I got up this morning to shower, turned on the tub faucet, and it went “pffffttttt”. No water. Frozen pipes. It was supa-dupah cold here overnight, with lows of -12°… and I completely forgot to leave a faucet running. Oops. I called my dad, who suggested that if the pipes had not yet burst they surely would, so I should attempt to thaw them with a hair dryer. I couldn’t imagine that it would work, so I (naturally) second-guessed him and checked on the internet. Lo and behold, every website I read said to use a hair dryer. I bundled up and headed into the garage with my trusty Conair and set to work – it took 45 minutes, but I was able to get things flowing again. According to a local news channel, it is currently NA°, which is why I left the faucet in my bathroom running and the furnace at a nice, steady 71°.

In other news, I mentioned the other day that I ordered a hard drive enclosure so I could take the hard drive out of the decrepit Gateway desktop and try to recover files. It arrived yesterday – can you say quick shipping?? – and I was able to mount the hard drive and get it up and running. There’s clearly nothing wrong with it, so something else in the Gateway malfunctioned… I’m not even going to bother trying to find out what. If I had to guess, I’d say the graphics card finally died, but it’s just not worth it to me to try and keep it going. I am relieved to know that I didn’t lose any data, though, and I’m glad I can keep that hard drive for additional storage. I consider that $39 well spent…

I don’t think this one was meant to be. We met this past weekend for dinner — we met at 6:00, and I was back in my car at 7:15. Frankly, I was kind of surprised. I thought things were going well: there was lots of conversation, we have a few things in common, and he seemed really nice. There wasn’t any kind of instant attraction or outstanding chemistry, but when he pushed himself back from the table at 60 minutes in, saying “Well, it was nice to meet you…”, I have to admit that I was taken aback.

Let me back up to say that this was our first meeting… we’d been emailing for the past month or so, but that’s it. He hadn’t asked for my phone number, and there were lengthy pauses between emails. The emails I did get were short… I figured he just preferred to speak face-to-face. Now, I really think dating is just not a priority for him. Listening to him talk about his life and his plans the other night, he really doesn’t have the room or time in his life for dating. I’m just at a very different place in my life.

I’m ready to find someone to have a life with. I’m looking for a long-term commitment with someone who shares my values and can be a lifelong friend and companion. I’m fine with this not working out; I didn’t have much invested beyond a few hours spent at the keyboard, so if I never hear from him again I think I’ll survive. Guess it’s back to Yahoo personals…

Whew. I’m back. Let me just say that it’s been quite a long while since I last went on a date. It’s hard to meet men in general, let alone single men. I don’t go to bars, I haven’t gone to church in years, and there just don’t seem to be that many available men working the rabbit rescue circuit. I’ve tried online dating sites off and on, but not with any success. No one has ever really offered to fix me up, until recently someone I barely know at work did. I have nothing to lose by letting someone play matchmaker, so I figured I’d let him. We’ll see how it goes — I’m trying to keep my expectations low, and hopefully I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

You know, I don’t have a thing to wear. I think we’re going to a casual restaurant, so I’m thinking some dark Levi’s, my new floral top from Kohl’s, and some wedge shoes. How ’bout it?

I missed posting twice in one week? I suck. I’ll just post twice today, then.

It seems that now Twelve is gone I actually do have a social life. It must have been in hiding, and I suppose this week could just be a fluke, but I’ve been out and about every night since Monday. Tuesday night was dinner with a friend and shopping at Target (I actually got out of there for under $100 — just), Wednesday night was dinner with the same friend for her birthday and then a movie at her house, and lastnight was dinner with another friend for her birthday. Tonight I have plans for highlights, then Petco to spend time with Arwen, and then home to do a mad, frantic house clean since I’m having company for the next week.

All I know is, thank the good lord it’s Friday. It’s been a heck of a week, and I could use some down time.

By the way, one of my purchases at Target the other night? A small notebook. Because clearly I don’t have enough of those. At least it’s eco-friendly!
