Thankful
November 27th, 2008
I guess I need to write the requisite Thanksgiving Day post… if I had to pin it down, I’d say the things I’m most thankful for this year are:
- My job. I may complain about what a tool my boss is, or how much I hate working at a place where the amount of time I sit in a chair every day is considered more important than the actual work that I do when it comes to promotions and year-end performance reviews, but at least I have a job that is pretty secure. The company I work for is in very good shape financially, which is no small feat in this day and age.
- A roof over my head. I may need new flooring and paint throughout, and there are some minor 7-year-old-house repairs needed, but I’m so thankful I have a place to live. So many have lost their homes this year, and I’m incredibly lucky to have gotten a low interest rate on a fixed-rate mortgage when I bought. It may not be my dream house, but in this market, I’m happy to have it.
- My family. This year saw my brother relocate to Indianapolis, which for me means having one of my best friends in the world close by. I love that we have the kind of relationship we do, and it means I get to be very involved in the lives of my girls. I’d love for my parents to move back this way… maybe I can be thankful for that next year?
- A changing country. Given the outcome of this year’s election, I don’t think I need to expound a lot on that, except to say I can’t wait to see what the coming year will bring. Maybe it’s just that I’m more attuned to progress these days, but these are exciting times.
Pretty trite, eh? But all true. Those are the things I’m most thankful for this year.
