Review: Clearasil Blackhead Control Pads

February 23rd, 2008

Clearasil Blackhead Control PadsI’ve always been a big fan of Paula Begoun and all her wisdom regarding beauty products. For the most part, I think drugstore formulas can be just as effective as the more expensive department store versions — and the same can even be said of Begoun’s own Paula’s Choice products. Until recently I had been using her 2% Beta Hydroxy Liquid as an exfoliant, but when she pointed out the Clearasil Blackhead Control Pads in her Best of 2007 reviews, I had to try them.

I found these at Target a couple of weeks ago on clearance for $4.71. They weren’t terribly expensive before, but on clearance? Woohoo! These pads contain 1% salicylic acid; the Paula’s Choice is available in 1% or 2%. I was using the 2% with good results, but couldn’t use it every night or risk irritating my skin. With these pads, I’m able to use them every night after cleansing my face, and I’m seeing great results! My pores are cleaner, and actually look smaller. The sea salt is supposed to help purify the skin, though I don’t know if it really is (or how I would tell). All in all, this may be one of the best drugstore purchases I’ve ever made — I’d have to recommend them to anyone prone to developing blackheads.
